Olympia is one of the more exceptional collections we have curated to date. This  set of classical academic drawings from the late 1800's and early 1900s features  beautifully proportioned and rendered Greek/Roman statues as is classic for academic drawings of this time. Of notable exception is that most works are signed by the same listed French artist Jane Grevey.  The exception is one signed and dated 1890. Executed in charcoal, these pieces exemplify Classicism at its finest. Academic drawings like this, notably from the prestigious Ecole de Paris, were integral to the coursework designed for mastering the human figure.

This artwork, undoubtedly in the manner of Jacques-Louis David, showcases the French artist's Neoclassical style that prominently featured Greek and Roman busts. David's influence on the era is unmistakable, and this drawing's refined technique and classical beauty are a testament to his enduring legacy. The drawing is in excellent condition, capturing the timeless elegance and academic rigor of early 20th-century art.

As antique artwork, these beauties do show signs of age as can be detailed  in the examples below in the detail photos. And though time is evident, their physical storiy is an integral part of historic art history in early France. In one piece you will note the top left corner detailing the assignment by the artist.

These pieces come professionally framed in a classic gallery style moulding and Acrylite Conservation Glazing, a UV filtering technology protecting works of art from the harmful effects of indoor and outdoor UV light rays and is half the weight of conventional glass. The frame moulding is available in 4 finishes upon checkout, with additional mat and frame options available upon request.
