This small antique graphite drawing from early 1900's France, titled L'ile du Silence, is a beautifully realized rendering of a small island featuring a structure and trees, all reflected on the water’s surface. Drawn on laid paper, the watermark of J. Perrigot is visible through the shaded strokes, adding a touch of historical authenticity to the piece.

J. Perrigot, the director of the Arches paper mill in Southern France at the turn of the 20th century, made his mark by developing the cylinder mould, which simplified paper-making. The unmistakable beauty of these papers is evident in this exquisite drawing.

The delicate yet precise graphite lines capture the tranquil scene with remarkable clarity, while the reflective water surface adds a dreamy quality to the composition. This drawing is not only a testament to the artist's skill but also to the enduring legacy of fine French paper craftsmanship.

All artwork comes professionally framed in a classic gallery style moulding, with a 4" archival, acid-free mat and Acrylite Conservation Glazing, a UV filtering technology that protects works of art from the harmful effects of indoor and outdoor UV light rays. The frame moulding is available in 4 finishes upon checkout, with additional mat and frame options available upon request.
