This exquisite early 1900's signed graphite portrait is signed by listed French artist Yves Becmeur (his work frequents auction houses). Yves Becmeur (1909-1921). Becmeur was a prominent figure in the arts and art education scene during the mid to late 20th century, known not only for his artwork but also for his contributions as an academic and author for the esteemed l'Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His most significant collaboration was in the publication of the influential art text Introduction to Visual Arts in 1967, an authoritative textbook that shaped the education of future artists in mid-century France.

Known for his haunting portraiture and figural works, this classical unfinished charcoal portrait in the style of Realism is rendered with delicacy down to the whiskers on his aged face and distant gaze (we have tried to highlight in the photos, but doesn't do justice). The laid paper is watermarked "MBM Made in France", a collection from Ingres D'Arches, one of the oldest paper mills in France. This artwork is a testament to Becmeur's mastery in drawing the human figure, embodying both the vibrancy and introspective qualities that define his oeuvre.

This piece is in very good shape with only the natural fading of paper that comes with age. The artwork comes with a gallery style frame and 4" archival, acid free mat and Acrylite Conservation Glazing, filtering out 99% of harmful UV light. Frame style/color selection available upon checkout, with additional mat and frame options available upon request.
