c.1940's Abstract Expressionist Coastal Landscape Oil Painting, Signed by Bernard Lewandowski

c.1940's Abstract Expressionist Coastal Landscape Oil Painting, Signed by Bernard Lewandowski

Bernard Lewandowski (b.1910) was a Polish artist living/working in both Poland and France during World War II. Listed in the Davenport's Art Reference, Lewandowski's paintings were frequently auctioned in the US in the 60's during visits from Europe. He lived in Nice, France after his WWII service. While Lewandowski considered his own vision to be not abstract, rather the world as seen through his own eyes (personal interpretation), he understood the French expressionist philosophies of man's relationship with Earth.

This is an exceptional piece created sometime between 1945 and 1950 as noted on the reverse of the painting. The substrate is board and the colors and brushstrokes are exceptionally vibrant. The artwork is in beautiful shape with only foxing on the reverse, which is common for a painting of this age.

This piece comes ready-to-frame with a 3" custom acid-free archival mat and backing.
